In 1985 the Gorilla Encounter exhibit opened to the public. Visitors can enjoy an interactive experience as they walk through a glass tunnel, one of the first of its kind, and examine the Gorillas habitat.
The zoo opened the Outdoor orangutan habitat in June 2003. It provides an opportunity for the zoo's Borean orangutans to be outside weather permitting.
